SAP Consultant – Job Profile & Salary Prospects

SAP consultants implement, configure and optimise SAP systems, which act as the backbone of business processes in many large companies and corporations. They analyse business requirements, adapt SAP modules and support migration projects - from the classic SAP ECC world to modern SAP S/4HANA. Core competencies vary depending on specialisation: SAP consultants typically focus on individual modules such as SAP FI/CO for finance, SAP MM/SD for logistics, SAP HCM for human resources or SAP BW for business intelligence. Technical consultants also have ABAP programming skills and experience with SAP Fiori, SAP BTP and integration scenarios. SAP certifications are highly regarded in the industry and salaries for SAP consultants are among the highest in IT consulting. The enormous complexity of SAP systems, the shortage of skilled labour and the ongoing S/4HANA migration wave are driving up remuneration. Positions at the major SAP consulting firms, at SAP itself and as freelance SAP consultants with daily rates in the four-figure range are particularly lucrative. Career paths lead from Junior SAP Consultant to Senior Consultant to SAP Solution Architect, SAP Programme Manager or Partner. The S/4HANA transformation offers SAP consultants a stable and lucrative labour market for years to come.
