Cloud Engineer – Job Profile & Salary Prospects

Cloud Engineers design, implement and manage cloud infrastructures and enable organisations to use scalable, cost-efficient and highly available IT resources. They migrate existing systems to the cloud, optimise cloud costs and ensure that cloud environments are operated securely and compliantly. Core competencies include in-depth knowledge of at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform. Experience with infrastructure as code, container orchestration, serverless computing and cloud networking is just as important as knowledge of identity and access management, encryption and compliance frameworks. Cloud certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator or Google Cloud Engineer are valuable qualifications. Salaries for cloud engineers are above average and continue to rise with increasing cloud adoption. Multi-cloud experts and specialists for cloud security or FinOps are in particularly high demand on the market. Technology companies, consulting firms and companies undergoing digital transformation offer particularly attractive remuneration packages, with career opportunities ranging from Junior Cloud Engineer to Senior Cloud Engineer to Cloud Architect, Cloud Security Specialist or Head of Cloud Infrastructure. The migration of on-premises systems to the cloud and the increasing spread of multi-cloud strategies ensure excellent future prospects for cloud engineers.
