UX Researcher – Job Profile & Salary Prospects

UX researchers systematically research the behaviour, needs and motivations of users in order to create a data-based foundation for design decisions. They plan and conduct qualitative and quantitative studies, analyse usage data and translate their findings into concrete recommendations for action for product teams. Their core competencies include a broad range of methods: user interviews, usability tests, surveys, card sorting, A/B tests and ethnographic field studies. Experience with analysis tools, statistical methods and the ability to present research results in an understandable way are also important. A background in psychology, social sciences or human-computer interaction provides the ideal academic foundation. Salaries for UX researchers are above average, reflecting the increasing demand for evidence-based product design. Technology companies in particular, which have established UX research as a strategic discipline, offer attractive remuneration packages. Financial service providers and healthcare companies are also increasingly investing in dedicated research teams, with career opportunities ranging from Junior UX Researcher to Senior Researcher to UX Research Lead, Head of Research or VP of User Insights. Specialisations in quantitative research, strategic research or research operations offer further development paths. The growing maturity of the UX discipline is increasingly opening up independent career paths for UX researchers.
