UX/UI Designer – Job Profile & Salary Prospects

UX/UI designers combine user experience research with visual design and accompany digital products from the initial concept through to pixel-perfect development. They combine user needs with aesthetic design and create interfaces that are both functionally convincing and visually inspiring. This dual role is particularly in demand in smaller teams and start-ups. The requirements profile includes UX methods such as user research, journey mapping and usability testing as well as UI skills such as visual design, prototyping and design system development. Experience with Figma, Sketch and common prototyping tools is required. Basic front-end knowledge of HTML and CSS is also an advantage to facilitate collaboration with developers. Salaries for UX/UI designers are attractive and benefit from the broad positioning. Designers who can think strategically as well as design visually are particularly in demand on the labour market. Technology companies, digital agencies and product companies offer competitive salaries, which are often complemented by flexible working conditions. Career paths lead from Junior UX/UI Designer to Senior Designer to Design Lead, Head of Design or VP of Product Design. Specialisations in UX Research, Design Strategy or Design Engineering offer additional development opportunities. The demand for versatile designers who have an overview of the big picture remains high in the long term.
