They implement CI/CD pipelines, automate infrastructure and promote a culture of collaboration between development and operations teams. Your goal is to make the entire software lifecycle more efficient and error-free. The technical requirements for DevOps Engineers are wide-ranging: experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, infrastructure as code with Terraform or Ansible, CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions as well as monitoring solutions such as Prometheus and Grafana. In addition, there is knowledge of at least one cloud platform, scripting in Bash or Python and a sound understanding of networks and security. Salaries for DevOps Engineers are among the highest in the IT industry and reflect the central importance of the role for modern software development. Demand far outstrips supply, resulting in attractive remuneration packages. Cloud providers, FinTech companies and large technology groups in particular offer top salaries, with career paths leading from Junior DevOps Engineer to Senior Engineer to DevOps Architect, Platform Engineer or Head of Infrastructure.
